Critiques

:iconkparks:
I've been looking at this image for a few days now, trying to figure out why I find it interesting, and I think I finally hit on it.

Of course, it is interesting visually because of the nice color scheme, with the small flashes of red and orange to contrast the overall blue/green hues. The very balanced composition gives it a nice calmness, and the selective focus give it just a little punch and, well... focus.

But for me, it succeeds most because, in giving the viewer such a minimum of visual information in a seemingly simple manner, what ought to be a quite mundane subject matter manages to be dramatic. The composition, color and focus all pull me in to the point that I identify emotionally with the plight of the grass. It is sort of an "aftermath of the storm" photo, down on a macro level.

My only negative comment is that, I generally think photos should stand on their own without an explanation. But with this piece, without the title, I might not have been able to tell what I was looking at. Then it would have been in interesting picture of *something*, but I probably would not have known *what*, which would have taken the edge off of it, just a bit.

But still, for what is at first glance a rather "ordinary" picture, I find this image to be quite strong, and worth a long look.

Also, in the context of this artists other works, I like the fact that it has not been "texturized", which I think would have taken away from the cleanliness of the image.
